I’ve been housebound a lot this month, a combination of poor health and bad weather. Asthma has sapped my energy so I have been sketching a lot and revisiting past work, rather than undertaking new large pieces which can be physically quite draining. Staying indoors does not limit my subject matter though; I continue to… Continue reading Housebound

Art for Christmas
December is always a popular month for exhibitions as people often like to buy art as unique and special Christmas presents for loved ones or as a treat for themselves! If this sounds like you, then there is still time to see (buy!) my work at both the Brick Lane Gallery in London, where I… Continue reading Art for Christmas
Art in Mind
I was very pleased to be asked to take part in an exhibition at the Brick Lane Gallery in London in December, called Art in Mind. It got me thinking…mindful art, mind full of art, which mine has been since a shall child. However the title suggests a more spiritual quality or imaginative exploration or… Continue reading Art in Mind
Memory and flamboyance
This painting is done from a childhood memory. Every summer we went back to my Grandma Bowen’s home in Swansea and we would often go on the tram to the Mumbles lighthouse. I am very proud of my Welsh heritage; its dramatic landscapes and stormy seas continue to inspire me. I used acrylics for this… Continue reading Memory and flamboyance
World Cup sketches
You may be surprised to see these sketches as I probably come across as unlikely football fan! But I have enjoyed watching the Qatar World Cup on the television and wanted to capture the players’ movement and energy. This first is A5 size and features, Japan v Croatia. It is done with a child’s hard… Continue reading World Cup sketches

Comprising ranunculus, gypsophila, double tulips, freesias and gerberas, I felt the need to capture their different forms and at midnight I drew them in biro in my trusty sketchbook.
Max after Hairdressers
This is a picture of my son Max Lamb after a hard day at his glass workshop and a long overdue trip to the hairdressers! I chose to use conté crayons because simply they were near at hand and this is typical of how I work: i am impatient to capture what is a fleeting… Continue reading Max after Hairdressers
Tulips
I was told my my art teacher (many years ago now!) that one should paint or draw every day, to practice one’s craft and to develop the discipline of seeing the world around us. I have maintained this throughout my 60 years of professional painting, evidenced by the the perilous mountains of sketchbooks that share… Continue reading Tulips
Ascot
This was painted during lockdown. I couldn’t go to Ascot of course so sketched this while watching the TV.
