I’ve been housebound a lot this month, a combination of poor health and bad weather. Asthma has sapped my energy so I have been sketching a lot and revisiting past work, rather than undertaking new large pieces which can be physically quite draining.
Staying indoors does not limit my subject matter though; I continue to take inspiration from the scenes through my window; my cat Tilly looking longingly at the blackbirds on the birdbath and the dramatic energy of Storm Isha.

There is also a regular programme of horseracing on the television, although sadly meets at my local racecourse Fakenham we’re cancelled because of the bad weather.

Continuing on the horse-racing theme, I am bravely entering what I call the Artists’ Grand National, i.e the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. All amateur and professional artists can submit work for this highly competitive but prestigious exhibition. This year’s theme is ‘Space’ and I will be submitting a painting where space is created by the light and reflections in a bedroom mirror. My work was successfully accepted in the past but not recently; so I hope Reflections in a Bedroom strikes a chord again again.
