This week I have been revisiting a technique I haven’t used in a while, which I call layering. I chanced upon an earlier print of the Red Comma Butterfly, similar to one I submitted to the Royal Academy in 1995 and it inspired me to attempt a new work with the same technique.

Essentially one drawing is layered upon another and then sealed together with a sealing agent. The finished product, with its varied media and multiple images, is so much denser and richer than the sum of its parts. This one of the willow tree is still work in progress and I am not sure whether it will work or not, but I am very much enjoying the process!
