These are experimental works, involving a technique I haven’t used for a while. Working on layout paper which can be very frail, I daubed splodges of watercolour, which were then left to find their own path. The form that the paint took inspired the subject matter, which I then defined and refined with a stick dipped in ink. I then make an old fashioned paste and stick the layout paper to cartridge paper and use a roller on the top to create interesting wrinkles.
I’ll be exhibiting these works at the beautiful St Giles-on-the-Hill Church, Norwich at the end of July and you can also see them when I open my doors in late September/October for this year’s Open Studios. Full details on my Forthcoming Exhibitions page.
These are very different to the types of pieces I’ve done for a while, so would appreciate your feedback! What do you think?
