I have a confession to make. The title of this blog is called Latest Work but in reality some of the work I feature here is work from the past that I have reinvented. I know that I am not unique in this and that all artists have work that develops and morphs over time.

Lilies is a case point; I originally drew this over a year ago but after dwelling on how Picasso uses colour, and reflecting on the darkness associated with our current war in Ukraine, I reworked it and am much happier with this finished product.

Medley too is another reworking. Originally it was simply a monoprint but I knew something was missing and it didn’t quite work as an abstract. I’ve recently looked at it with fresh eyes and could see that I needed to make more of the tulips and flowers.

Disturbance however is a current work and was more of an experiment using leftover paint. As I started painting the horizontals it took me to places I have visited, landscapes that have left an impression on me.

This process has made me see the positive side of no longer teaching – I am able to relax into my work, be selfish and experiment. Retirement can be a beautiful thing!
